“Sprint Supplies Aviva Stadium”

The Aviva Stadium is set to be one of the most iconic buildings in Dublin, with its curved clear shell which protects the structure from the elements, the sleek design significantly reduces energy requirements within the venue. Built on the site of the former Lansdowne Road the modern new stadium will be the home for Irish soccer and rugby international teams. The venue will also be one of Dublin’s premier event locations offering the most up to date facilities for all types of entertainment and corporate events.

In 2007 the old Lansdowne Road stadium was completely demolished to make way for the construction of the newly named ‘Aviva Stadium’, which is due to be officially opened in mid May 2010. Situated in the Ballsbridge area of Dublin the new 50,000 capacity all-seater stadium replaces the former 36,000 seat stands. The new development makes way for new hospitality suites and a fully covered seating capacity.

The stadium was designed by Populous, formerly HOK Sport, and the whole stadium envelope design is covered with polycarbonate louvres attached to long curved structural tubes which cover the whole stadium. Special aluminium castings are attached to the tubes which then carry the louvre assembly. 1000’s of these castings were pretreated and powder coated by Sprint Coatings for the project. The finished project will look like a smooth water droplet within the urban landscape. Installation of the fenestration and louvres on the project have been undertaken by Williaam Cox Ireland Limited, who are also based in Dublin.
